Boxi Wu is a doctoral researcher at the Oxford Internet Institute (OII), University of Oxford, where they are examining the politics and environmental impacts of AI infrastructure. Boxi worked as a researcher on the Political Geography of AI Infrastructure project with Professor Vili Lehdonvirta and is currently a research consultant with the OECD’s AI Policy Observatory (OECD.AI) on AI compute policy. Boxi’s PhD is generously funded by the UK’s Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) and Balliol College. Prior to returning to academia, Boxi worked in AI Ethics & Safety at Google DeepMind where they specialised in the ethics of LLMs and led the responsible release of the Gemini models. Boxi holds an MSc in Social Science of the Internet from the OII and a BA in Political Science from the University of Western Australia.
